new sketches

so I wasn't completely happy with my Kara Goucher face for my first Monday Artday posting, so I spent some time this morning sketching:

Nothing too wild, but I am not in the habit of trying different things when I draw, and I am training myself to do so.

I wasn't so much of an artsy-kid growing up.  Of course I enjoyed drawing, crafting, and the like, like many others I was under the impression that art was this magical gift and I didn't have it, and therefore impractical for me to put any time into it.  Now I'm 25 and have finally accepted the nagging voice inside of me and I desperately need to catch up.  My Studio Art degree from Smith has given me the excuse to really focus on my art, but unfortunately quite little in technical skill.  I'm spending way too much money on Amazon on art books.

One and a half months after graduation, I finally feel thankful to be unemployed.  I spent all of January writing cover letters, researching online, getting really upset at all the postings on craigslist wanting you to draw for them for free, and stressing about the label of "unemployed" being stuck to me.  In reality, I have enough money saved to not starve for a couple of months, and I can really use this time to improve.  It is actually kind of a blessing.  I'm looking forward to seeing where my blog is by the end of this month.

No more writing.  Back to drawing.
