first furniture project

The recent move down to Tampa consisted of only the necessities - clothes, computers, dishes, dogs. No furniture made it. We have since been slowly picking up the basics at Ikea, thrift stores, flea markets, and craigslist (please check out my twitter, @jrosestuff, for some interesting craigslist postings and thrift store reviews).

Our new acquisitions have allowed me to take on some projects that I never had the opportunity to attempt before. Tampa is definitely not Boston, and the move has more than doubled our apartment square footage and has also included a huge balcony/patio that provides plenty of space for painting without tripping over the dogs. I have been flipping through Design*Sponge's book for inspiration (swoon).

My first project was a TV stand. $40 from craigslist:

Hours later (yes, unbelievably, this took me hours):

The next day:

 And finally:

I think it will look great to put a big, leafy, Jurassic Park-type plant next to it, don't you?

Painting and taping were a snap. I need to go in with a small brush and clean up just a couple spots where they paint bled, but it is very minor.

Next projects include a dresser (I'm still living out of a suitcase), end tables, nightstands, and a bench. I'm going to attempt some stenciling. Stay tuned!
